Volunteering
About
Parents as Partners
Parent involvement is one of the most important components of a successful preschool program. Volunteering at your child’s preschool is one way parents can be involved in their child’s education and a way to contribute to the preschool program. We want to partner with parents by encouraging every parent to volunteer for one hour or more during the school year. Research shows students are more successful in school when parents are actively involved in their child’s education.
How to Become a Volunteer
All parents must fill out a volunteer application. Once the application is approved, parents must attend volunteer training. After training, you can schedule a day and time to volunteer that is convenient for you. We encourage each parent to give one hour of their time during the school year, but if a parent wants to volunteer on a regular basis, they are more than welcome!
What Volunteers Do
Volunteers can work in classrooms assisting at circle time, arrival and dismissal times, working/playing with children during centers, and supervising during gross motor time. Volunteers can help prepare materials for lessons, assist the office staff with administrative tasks or volunteers can take projects home to complete and send back to school. You can sign up to volunteer for one hour or more.
What Volunteers Don’t Do
Volunteers may or may not work in their child’s classroom. Sometimes a child’s learning can be disrupted when their parent is in the classroom, therefore you may be assigned to work in a different classroom from your child’s. Volunteers don’t teach lessons or discipline children. We want the volunteer experience to be positive for both parents and children.
